We respectfully disagree with a certain Hawaiian shirt-clad guitar player that happiness has anything to do with latitude. Truth is, to change your attitude, you should change your ALTITUDE. Gain a new perspective on the world at large by making Vista your home base for your next trip to the Great Smoky Mountains.
This 2 BR/2 1/2 BA lodge is located on the pinnacle of Hatcher Mountain, with outstanding views of the Smokies mountain ridges, tree-covered foothills, and valley floor below, with complete 180 degree visibility of calm-inducing, natural serenity. Each season offers its own beautiful wonders, from changing leaves, to snow-capped peaks, to a lush green carpet of hills rolling out before you.
Before we go inside, let's check out the exterior surroundings. Just off the cabin's private, covered back-entry porch with rockers and a bench glider, the rare mountain cabin backyard provides a level and open space for tossing a ball or playing laid back lawn games. There is a ridge-top backyard fire pit, where all can plant a seat to gather and warm away the chill of an autumn evening, sharing stories and roasting marshmallows together.
Now let's take a few steps onto the large, south-facing covered porch that spans the frontside of the home, whose front yard overlooks the majestic vista of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Watch both the sunrise and moonrise over Mt. Leconte and the North Carolina-Tennessee state line. There are large and small wooden rocking chairs, and it's a perfect location for a morning mug of coffee. It's also a front row seat, with an orchestra of birdsong and a breezy open-sky theater of clouds floating by in the expanse above. The resident chef can prepare lunch on the charcoal grill, while keeping company with a sidekick who is swaying away on the bench swing. Enjoy the southern exposure from this 500-square foot covered veranda for dining on cool winter days or rainy summer afternoons. Share laughs with the family in the swirling hot tub, or perhaps just sink in to a more private, soothing, late evening experience together while searching for shooting stars. There is even an additional lower deck area, that provides a covered and safe speedway space for those little ones needing supervision on their ride-on toys, creating an outside playdeck that's available in any weather.
You can easily relax and play outdoors comfortably, and we haven't even been inside! Let's go in. The main level entry opens into the living area, with a two-story cathedral ceiling to the upper floor loft above. Leave your worries on the doorstep, and put your feet up as you relax deep into the sofa before the wood-burning fireplace with stacked stone mantel and hearth. With plenty of wood just outside the door, begin your mental vacation while gazing at the flames and listening to the crackle and pop of the logs. Or take in your favorite episode on the large screen TV mounted just above the fire. The interior is simple, inviting, and comfortable, like coming home to grandmother's house.
The adjacent galley kitchen is well-equipped, compact and efficient to create both simple snacks and complete hearty meals for all. Six people can share a meal together at the oval wooden dining table. After dinner, play a round of cards or work a puzzle late into the evening.
Technology is not an afterthought, though. There are 3 satellite HD TV's throughout the home, and high speed wireless internet available for those who wish to maintain their social networking obligations while on vacation.
When it's time to retire for the night, a king bedroom suite is also located on the main level. Its private bath has a walk-in shower, and the room has its own television and rocker for late hour child comforting or just reading. An additional half bath powder room is also located on the main level for convenience.
Climb upstairs to the second bedroom open loft suite. This space features a king bed, private full bath, and small exterior personal balcony. Also found here is an additional sitting area at the upper floor landing. It is adjacent to a supersized dormer window overlooking those stunning outdoor views. It's definitely the right spot for a "just catching up" conversation, while the floor space allows children to spread out and leave their toys undisturbed, so they are not underfoot in the main living room.
When you are ready to venture out again, this hilltop cabin home also has privileges at a nearby community pool and a catch and release fish pond in Wears Valley.
